Sustainability is a developing and dynamic field of practice as evidenced by recent changes in Australian legislation, bans on export of waste and the global shift towards a circular economy.

The Sustainability project will revise the Sustainable Operations and Environmental Monitoring and Technology qualifications and units of competency to ensure they are current and comprehensive.  Skills for the Circular Economy will also be addressed within existing and/or new units of competency and the need for Skill Sets will also be considered.

The draft Case for Change proposes to:

  • review/redevelop four qualifications:
    • MSS40118 – Certificate IV in Sustainable Operations
    • MSS50118 – Diploma of Sustainable Operations
    • MSS40218 – Certificate IV in Environmental Monitoring and Technology
    • MSS50218 – Diploma of Environmental Monitoring and Technology
  • review/redevelop 64 units of competency (25 in Sustainable Operations and in 39 Environmental Monitoring and Technology)
  • develop five new units of competency focussed on the circular economy.

Training package projects are overseen by the relevant Industry Reference Committee (IRC) and supported by a project Technical Advisory Committee (TAC). They guide the project and provide industry expertise for developing the components. All projects are then referred to the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) for approval.
