What is RSS?
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary and is a way in which frequently updated web content, such as news sites and weblogs can be published in a standard format. RSS documents are called feeds, web feeds, or channels and usually include full or summarized text, plus metadata such as the name of the authors and date published.
Why use RSS?
The benefit of using RSS for web-based publishers is that it allows them to syndicate content automatically, saving resources while simultaneously allowing for a more flexible way to distribute content.
RSS allows to users to stay up to date with the information that most interests them, without having to expend large amounts of effort to search for and obtain that information. As RSS feed updates occur automatically they appear in the users RSS reader.

There is a range of software available to enable RSS users to read there feeds. These are sometimes called RSS readers, feed readers, or aggregators and can be web-based, desktop-based, or mobile-device-based. Once you have got a reader all you need to do is subscribe by entering the URL of the feed into your reader or by clicking on the RSS icon next to the feed title and following the subscription process. The RSS reader checks the feeds you are subscribed to on a regular basis, downloading any updates as they occur.
