Update on TAA Practitioners' Network – Wiki project
The IBSA TAA Practitioners’ Network, established with support from Reframing the Future, held an initial workshop in Melbourne last week. Welcomed by IBSA CEO, Patricia Neden, the participants shared their varied TAA experiences and explored concepts of innovative practice in delivery and assessment of the Certificate IV.
Network members, who come from all across the country, will continue to work together to share and build knowledge via IBSA’s trial wiki site. In September the wiki site will enable all interested parties to participate in the Network’s discussions and information exchange. For further information about the project, please contact anita@ibsa.org.au.

IBSA Submission to DEEWR on Language, Literacy and Numeracy
A has provided comment to DEEWR on the Language, Literacy and Numeracy Program Language (LLNP) which provides literacy and numeracy training for eligble jobseekers to help them engage with employment or further training. DEEWR released a discussion paper in mid-June calling for written submissions from interested stakeholders by 11 July 2008. IBSA’s submission highlighted our view that the LLNP plays an important role in the skills and training needs of the Australian workforce, including employer requirements for skilled workers, and individual demand for career pathways and development.

Industry Skills Councils (ISCs) – Skills Australia – State and Territory Industry Stakeholders’ Forum
To assist Skills Australia to consolidate their high-level advice to Government on Australia’s industry skills needs, ISCs will co-host forums with Skills Australia and the state and territory industry advisory network towards the end of August. The major outcome of the forum is to build the national industry voice to advise on skills priorities, including for the Australian Government’s Productivity Places Program (PPP). IBSA’s Industry Managers and Board will participate in the collaborative forum with our advisory stakeholders.
The first key agenda point will be the immediate and emerging workforce skills priorities in IBSA’s six industry sectors, and the second will explore future alignment of IBSA’s work programs with stakeholders. The forum will provide a welcome opportunity for IBSA to work with state and territory advisory bodies on building our national industry advice network.

Development of New Training Websites to Replace the NTIS
A reminder that a project blog has been launched to keep people up to date with the development of training.gov.au, the suite of websites that will replace ntis.gov.au and training.com.au. The new websites are a joint effort between the Australian Government, state and territory governments and industry to ensure people can get the information they need to make informed decisions about training.
Training.gov.au will perform five key functions:
- provide a national register of training providers and products
- provide an authoritative and up-to-date database of training package content
- enable different user groups to get information out in the way that they want through three websites and a data download
- enable state and territory governments to manage regulatory information about training and training providers; and
- provide a tool for industry skills councils to create, edit and manage their training packages.
During the design phase, a number of interactive prototypes were developed and tested with user representatives. These, and a range of technical documents, including data models, have also been developed and are available from the Project’s blog at http://blog.training.gov.au. The blog will be regularly updated with news, information and project progress reports.
