The current Visual Arts Craft and Design Training Package provides the framework for all national vocational qualifications in visual arts, craft and design, including:
- qualifications up to Certificate IV level in Visual Arts and Contemporary Craft, Design, Photoimaging and Arts Administration
- Certificate II and IV in Opal Cutting and Polishing
- Diploma and / or Advanced Diploma qualifications in Arts Management, Photoimaging and Creative Product Development
Now, IBSA has commenced a project to expand and update the current Training Package. In particular, the project will:
- develop higher-level national qualifications in the areas of Visual Arts and Craft, Ceramics, Graphic Design and potentially a broad Diploma of Design (using existing curricula as the basis for development)
- conduct a ‘fitness-for-purpose’ review of the current Training Package, refining and updating content to meet stakeholder needs and current national policy requirements
A Discussion Paper on the new & updated national qualifications in Visual Arts Craft and Design is now available. This paper will inform the first consultation phase of the project which runs from mid- February to the end of March.
In summary, the paper:
- briefly discusses some of the broader issues and challenges for the project
- sets a brief context for each proposed new qualification and provides an outline qualification for discussion.
- provides a context for the ‘fitness for purpose’ review of the existing Training Package with some key questions for users of the existing units and qualifications.
A mapping showing the proposed new units of competency and how they relate to existing state territory units that will inform their development is provided as a separate document.
We appreciate that many people will only be interested in certain parts of the project, so the paper is also available in smaller sections.
We look forward to the discussions and feedback from a broad range of practitioners, industry organisations and educators. Your input will be very important to the detailed development phase of the project.
