In its media release of 31 May 2011, IBSA welcomed Senator Conroy’s announcement to promote the community and productivity benefits of the National Broadband Network across households, businesses, health, education and finance sectors and his acknowledgement of skills needed to support the NBN.
Michel Hedley, Chair of IBSA’s ICT Sector Advisory Committee, commented on the findings of the ICT Escan 2011, which reveals that there are major workforce development challenges for ICT industries and the NBN potential “relies on a skilled workforce as well as the understanding of various business sectors . . . to significantly enhance their business models”. Indeed, he emphasises that, as Australia’s digital economy evolves, ICT will become increasingly vital for business productivity and sustainability and skills across the ICT spectrum will be required.
