Fostering Enterprise Innovation - IBSA has completed research to provide enterprises with more information on the key factors that influence innovation in the workplace and the roles of government, business leaders and service providers. The research, undertaken by Prof Victor Callan of the University of Queensland’s Business School, also identified strategies that support effective collaboration for innovation and investigated mechanisms for developing and providing resources for organisations, including the enhancement of networking and mentoring opportunities. The report and an executive summary will shortly be available on the IBSA website.
IBSA Workforce Capability Tool development - With support from DEEWR’s Workforce Innovation Program, IBSA, in partnership with the Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI), is converting the paper-based IBSA Workforce Capability Tool into an online tool and developing linked advisory material to provide users with information on the options available to develop innovation capabilities. The expert consultant iedex is developing the software which will provide an additional useful tool to guide organisations toward workforce development options for building innovation capability. A National Project Reference Group is providing the project with valuable input and ideas for enterprises wishing to participate in the trialling of the online tool. Management and leadership practices in Australia - The research focuses on the lessons from the Karpin research into leadership and management capabilities of Australian managers, with the additional perspectives of the growing importance of Corporate Social Responsibility, Productivity and the Australian Cultural Imprint for Leadership report. The report will signal areas of change needed in the current suite of management and leadership qualifications. IBSA will be engaging a consultant to undertake the research and a working party has been established representing key areas in Leadership and Development across a range of industry sectors. It includes a range of new digital printing competencies: a Certificate II in Printing and Graphic Arts (Digital Printing) and a Certificate III in Printing and Graphic Arts (Digital Printing). Digital printing competencies have also been included as electives in the Certificate III in Printing and Graphic Arts (Printing). Environmental sustainability competencies have been incorporated as a core component in every qualification and competitive manufacturing competencies are included as electives. IBSA will be running information sessions for industry and Professional Development workshops for Registered Training Organisations in the near future. Draft Qualifications have been validated. The reviewed Training Package is due to be submitted to the National Quality Council for endorsement by the end of May 2010. It is anticipated that the final qualifications and skill sets will be submitted to the NQC by September 2010. The matters raised in the paper and discussions were around the broader issues and challenges for the project, the context for each proposed new qualification, and the context for the ‘fitness for purpose’ of the existing Training Package with some key questions for users of the units and qualifications.
