In late 2009 IBSA carried out an applied research project in Financial Services, which involved gaining a better understanding of training provided outside publicly-funded financial services training – particularly that undertaken by or on behalf of key financial services industry associations and professional associations.  The research focused on the insurance and financial planning sectors

The associations participating in the research included those representing the insurance and/or financial planning sectors, or part thereof.  Several enterprises and training providers also provided a user perspective.

Applied Research in Financial Services Final Report and Compendium

The Final Report provides:

  • A description of the type, structure and extend of training currently provided by the associations and others consulted in this project outside publically funded and nationally recognised training
  • An outline of reasons that alternative training is more attractive to industry
  • Information regarding key barriers to greater uptake of the nationally recognised qualifications in IBSA’s custodianship
  • Identification of the prospects for establishing better future links between IBSA and industry-associated training, including strategic action that IBSA could take to strengthen these links.

The research findings will feed into ongoing revisions to the Financial Services Training Package, future industry engagement activities, future Environmental Scans (E-scans) and the development of workforce development strategies.
