RMIT Printing Industry Training Awards 2007 - apprentice of the year

The 57th annual RMIT Printing Industry Training Awards took place on Wednesday 7 May at Storey Hall in Melbourne. Printing is one of IBSA’s key industries and IBSA Industry Manager Linda Arnold attended on IBSA’s behalf.

IBSA’s warmest congratulations go to winner of the Collie Print Trust Apprentice of the Year Award, Amanda Hay, Breen Printing Pty. Ltd., Graphic Pre-Press Apprentice, RMIT University.

This prestigious award is sponsored by The Collie Print Trust and is awarded to the outstanding final-level apprentice from the following areas: Graphic Pre-press/ Screen- printing/ Print Machining/ Print Finishing. The recipient is eligible for a National or International study tour.

Amanda works as a Graphic Pre-Press Apprentice at Breen Printing Pty Ltd in Healesville and has had a strong interest in Creative Art since her early childhood.

She has been working in the Printing and Graphic Arts Industry for over three years and during this time has developed a greater knowledge and real passion for the industry. Last year she also won a gold medal in the WorldSkills Regional Competition for her work in Printing and Graphic Arts (Pre-Press), and this year she has also been awarded the Herb Thomas Memorial Trust Award of $1,200 towards furthering her studies and/or professional development in the industry.

Also to be congratulated is Gloria Manno, Administration Sales Support, Edwards Dunlop Paper, Diploma of Printing and Graphic Arts (Digital Production), RMIT University, recipient of the Collie Print Trust Graduate of the Year Award.

The RMIT Printing Industry Training Awards were attended by over 400 industry representatives, along with family and friends, and the staff of RMIT’s International Centre of Graphic Technology (ICGT), to acknowledge the achievements of apprentices and graduates across the printing and graphic arts training packages offered by ICGT in Victoria and Tasmania.

In 2007, as in previous years, the award winners have provided the industry with an outstanding level of new tradespeople to take the industry forward into the 21st Century. All the winners have demonstrated excellence in ability, knowledge and skills within their respective trade areas.

IBSA is proud to be associated with the skills and achievements of students completing the Printing and Graphic Arts Training Package which caters for new and emerging technologies by addressing current and future skill needs.
