IBSA Launches New Qualifications in Organisational Learning and Capability Development at Sydney Inst of TAFE

The Apprentice function room at the Sydney Institute of TAFE was the impressive venue for the launch to TAFE Directors of IBSA’s new qualifications in Organisational Learning and Capability Development.

The launch took place at the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting of TAFE Directors Australia (TDA) on 17 April, and provided a first class opportunity for TAFE Chief Executives to hear about the new BSB07 qualifications.

IBSA Chief Executive, Sharon Coates, was guest of honour and presented a short address on IBSA’s unique whole-of-system role in embedding innovative skills and value to our industries, and the centrality of innovation to all that IBSA does. She highlighted IBSA’s strategic direction for 2008-10 encompassing four key areas: encouraging and assisting workforce skills development; giving voice to industry; working with enterprises and RTOs on skills needs and solutions, and achieving its goals through connections and collaborations.

In asking why the two new Organisation Learning and Capability Development qualifications are relevant to providers, Sharon stressed that the qualifications are designed for people required to make high level independent judgements in their job roles. If TAFEs and other RTOs add them to their scope of registration they will not only tap into the large enterprises market to provide personal development and career path qualifications for their employees, but TAFEs themselves can also use these qualifications to upgrade their own workforce skills for enhanced understanding of their own operations.

The new qualifications, a Vocational Graduate Certificate in Organisational Learning and Capability Development and a Vocational Graduate Diploma of Organisational Learning and Capability Development, are an innovative feature of the revised BSB07 Training Package for Business Services.

Both qualifications, developed in consultation with industry and endorsed by the National Quality Council, are higher level vocational qualifications, with no specific prerequisite requirements. The qualifications are ideally suited to job roles such as HRD Manager, Organisational Learning and Development Manager, Training Manager, Human Resources Manager or for education professionals working in a registered training organisation.

IBSA appreciated the kind hospitality of TDA and TAFE Directors at Sydney Institute and congratulates TDA Chair, Deb Daly and CEO Martin Riordan on the great work TDA is doing to promote the key role TAFE plays in provision of skills training in Australia.
