NSW releases skills development priorities

The New South Wales (NSW) Department of Education and Training has released the NSW Skills Development Priorities as part of the Strategic Skills Program which helps grow strategic industries in New South Wales by purchasing training through the open market to up-skill existing workers and those out of the workforce. NSW Skills Development Priorities 2009-2010 will be used to guide the purchase of training through the Strategic Skills Program in 2009-2010. The Strategic Skills Program does not fund apprenticeship or traineeship training.

Priority industries form the basis of the NSW Skills Development Priorities 2009-2010, with each region purchasing training for delivery to the industries that are most significant to their local economic and workforce requirements. These industries are important for New South Wales economic growth or have significant employment outcomes. Priority industries include those identified in the NSW Innovation Statement, the NSW Strategic VET Plan, and emerging sectors such as environmental sustainability skills. Industries facing acute skill shortages have also been included.
