Business group ACCI calls on COAG to reform VET sector
The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Australia's largest and most representative business organisation, yesterday called on governments at this week's meeting of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) to take the next steps in reform to the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector.
ACCI sees the reforms as critical investments in Australia's human resource capability. ACCI believes that the business community welcomes the focus on a reformed VET sector, particularly around the concept of a national VET market and the idea of contestable funding based on formal learning and industry developed and endorsed Training Packages. ACCI notes that a more demand-driven system, as recently outlined in the Victorian Government’s discussion paper Securing Our Future Economic Prosperity - Discussion Paper on Skills Reform, is strongly supported by the business community.
