Web Designer

Have you already played around with creating websites? Do you want to make a career for yourself in the dynamic, exciting world of online? If you have a creative flair, like working on computers, have an eye for detail and good people skills, your first step into this world could be as a web designer.

Web designers design, create, produce and maintain web pages using a range of software applications and content management systems. Tasks include:

  • discussing ideas with clients, to obtain a clear perception of their requirements
  • designing the look and feel of websites in consultation with clients
  • liaising with writers, designers, system administrators and other IT staff
  • developing graphic and text content in line with design briefs
  • managing copyright issues
  • assisting clients with e-commerce solutions
  • developing custom programs to extend the function of websites
  • maintaining or updating websites after completion.

CUF40207 Certificate IV in Interactive Digital Media

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who use well developed skills and a broad knowledge base in a wide variety of contexts in the digital content industry. They apply solutions to a defined range of unpredictable problems, and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources. They may provide leadership and guidance to others with some limited responsibility for the output of others.

What you can expect in a training program

While each course or on-the-job training program may differ in emphasis, you can expect to learn about how the interactive digital media industry works, who the important players are, how to work safely, and the importance of creativity and critical thinking to all jobs in the industry. A typical training program for a Certificate IV in Interactive Digital Media that specialised in web design would include:

  • authoring interactive media
  • creating storyboards
  • designing user interfaces
  • creating user interfaces
  • applying scripting language in authoring
  • creating visual design components
  • writing content
  • reviewing and maintaining a website
  • managing projects
  • making presentations to clients and other team members
  • working collaboratively with team members.
